iQ FOODS
In the food and beverage industry, nothing is more important than quality and safety. Meat transportation and storage is one of the most heavily regulated areas due to the risks of careless meat handling. There are a number of pathogens found in raw meat including Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella, Staphylococcus and many others that can cause serious illness if consumed. Not to mention the money a food distributor, grocery store or restaurant loses if large quantities of meat are stored poorly and have to be thrown away. As one of the country’s leading independent meat suppliers, iQ Foods understands this better than most. The company has extensive experience in the science behind meat storage. iQ Foods is an expert in monitoring food color, bone color and bleach (water, lactic acid and meat pigment). The entire environment of the storage facility or facility must be specifically measured because meat management has many factors. If the temperature differs by even half a degree, the quality and safety of the meat will be affected.
T&D's temperature and humidity recording products help control the process.

To ensure the high quality and safety of the company’s inventory, which often contained more than $60 million worth of meat at a time, iQ Foods was required to manually measure its entire inventory on a daily basis. This process involved employees walking around the company’s storage facilities approximately 15-20 times per day to manually check multiple temperature gauges inside and outside the freezer/refrigerator, and record the measurements. This process was fraught with inefficiencies including wasted time and inefficiency as employees had to manually check measurements, human error including missing a measurement cycle or misreading the gauge, leaving the refrigerator door open after taking a measurement, and other incidents. All of these factors threatened the security and quality of iQ Foods’ inventory. It also made it more difficult to comply with mandatory reporting of all measurements to quality control organizations and grocery stores that purchased meat. And while the company is disciplined in its manual measurement process
Using a data logger TR-71A, iQ Foods has virtually mapped each freezer/refrigerator to understand the ideal temperature settings for each room's layout. Wireless functionality allows staff to check the status of each data logger using the app T&D Thermo included. They can even tell immediately if the freezer/refrigerator door is opened. This allows Lobaugh and his team to ensure that the proper conditions are maintained in real time, from anywhere in the world. One of the key elements in the meat processing process is moving inventory from frozen to thawed. The temperature of the meat must be closely monitored throughout this process. With TR-71A and food probe of T&D to measure internal temperatures, iQ Foods can dial in the exact timing of this process, perfecting it completely. In addition to tracking iQ Foods’ inventory in real time, data collection and reporting have never been simpler. The TR-71A now sends reports to the Storage Service T&D website every hour. Temperature data collection is automated, providing the company with a digital record of data throughout the storage process. This makes reporting to customers and quality inspectors easier than ever.
