IMPORTANT PARAMETERS IN BOILERS AND FEED WATER
Monitoring alkalinity, chloride, hardness, phosphate, pH, and sulfite concentrations in boiler and feedwater is essential to prevent dangerous or costly situations. These parameters are important in determining the corrosive properties of water due to carbonates and chlorides. Sulfites are also important in preventing pitting and oxidation of metal components. High sulfite levels result in lower pH, which can also promote corrosion.
