TOTAL IRON IN CLEAN WATER
Iron is naturally present in low concentrations in water, but is found in high concentrations in wastewater. Iron concentrations in water need to be monitored because iron can be harmful at certain levels. In domestic settings, iron can cause stains, damage kitchenware, contribute to the growth of certain bacteria, and alter the taste of water. Iron is also an indicator of ongoing corrosion in cooling and heating systems. In addition, iron is often monitored in mining wastewater to avoid contamination.
