Force and mechanical measuring equipment
The HI4003 is a solid-state, half-cell selective electrode (ISE) for the determination of cadmium (Cd2+) in solution. The cadmium sulfide/silver sulfide sensing mixture produces a potential change due to the exchange of cadmium ions between the inorganic pellet membrane and the sample. The internal sensing elements are housed in a durable epoxy body.
The HI4003 is ideal for a wide range of applications in electroplating, battery manufacturing and in the laboratory.

For use with HI5315 reference electrode
The HI4003 cadmium selective electrode is a half-cell sensor housed in an epoxy body. The internal elements are isolated from the sample by a silver chloride sensing membrane. This sensor requires a separate reference electrode when taking measurements (HI5315).
Hanna solid state half-cell electrodes are designed for use with the HI5315 conical junction reference electrode. The conical reference forms a liquid junction with the sample solution at the tip of the conical junction, providing a very stable reference current and a consistent flow rate of electrolyte into the solution.
For the HI4003 to accurately measure cadmium, it is important that the ionic strength of the standards and samples be adjusted to a high and constant value using the HI4000-00 Ionic Strength Adjustment Solution (ISA). The ISA ensures that the activity coefficient is constant so that the concentration of free cadmium ions can be measured. Measuring all solutions with a constant ionic strength reduces the margin of error between measurements. The HI4003 cadmium solid-state ISE can measure from 0.1μM (0.01 mg/L) to 0.1M (11,200 mg/L).

SALIENT FEATURES
Fixed sensor module – Solid-state half-cell ISE is the electrode detects free ions in solution. The highly insoluble, compressed sensing particles are attached to the HI4003 cadmium half-cell electrode by a fixed sensing module for ease of use.
Durable epoxy body – Half-cell probe body made of durable epoxy resin.
BNC connection – The HI4003 has a universal BNC connector that easily connects to any meter with a BNC input.
Working principle: A solid-state sensor electrode develops a voltage due to the ion exchange that occurs between the solution and the inorganic membrane. An equilibrium occurs due to the limited solubility of the membrane material in the sample. When the ionic strength of the solution is fixed with ISA SOLUTION, the voltage will be proportional to the concentration of free ions in the solution.
