Force and mechanical measuring equipment
The HI4012 is a solid state half-cell ion selective electrode (ISE) for the determination of Lead (Pb2+) in solution and Sulfate indicator in titration. The lead sulfide sensing pellet generates an electric current due to the exchange of fluoride ions between the inorganic membrane and the sample. The internal sensing elements are housed in a durable epoxy body.
The HI4012 is ideal for applications in environmental monitoring and plating baths.

For use with HI5315 reference electrode
The HI4012 lead/sulfate selective electrode is a half-cell sensor housed in an epoxy body. The internal elements are separated from the sample by a compressed lead/sulfate sensing membrane.
Hanna solid state half-cell electrodes are designed for use with the HI5315 conical junction reference electrode. The conical shape of the reference forms a liquid junction with the sample solution at the tip of the conical junction, providing a very stable reference current and a consistent flow rate of electrolyte into the solution.
For the HI4012 to accurately measure lead, it is important that the ionic strength of the standards and samples be adjusted to a high and constant value with the lead ionic strength adjuster (ISA) solution. The ISA solution will ensure that the activity coefficient remains constant so that the concentration of free lead ions can be measured. Measuring all solutions at a constant ionic strength will reduce the margin of error between measurements. The HI4012 solid lead/sulfate ISE can measure from 1µM (0.21 mg/L) to 0.1M (20,700 mg/L).
The HI4012 can also be used as an indicator to monitor the progress and detect the endpoint of a sulfate precipitation titration. During the titration, the lead/sulfate ISE tracks the lead concentration while a lead perchlorate solution is used to titrate the sample. The lead in the titration solution reacts with the sulfate ions present in the sample to form a precipitate. Once all of the lead and sulfate ions have reacted, a change in mV occurs to signal the endpoint, and ultimately the sulfate concentration.

SALIENT FEATURES
Fixed sensor module – Solid-state half-cell ISE is the electrode detects free ions in solution. The highly compressed, insoluble sensing particles are attached to the HI4009 half cell electrode by a fixed sensing module for ease of use.
Durable epoxy body – Half-cell probe body made of durable epoxy resin.
BNC connection – The HI4012 has a universal BNC connector that easily connects to any meter with a BNC input.
Working principle: A solid-state sensor electrode develops a voltage due to the ion exchange that occurs between the solution and the inorganic membrane. An equilibrium occurs due to the limited solubility of the membrane material in the sample. When the ionic strength of the solution is fixed with ISA SOLUTION, the voltage will be proportional to the concentration of free ions in the solution.
