Force and mechanical measuring equipment
The HI4110 is a solid state ion selective electrode (ISE) for the determination of fluoride (F-) in solution. The lanthanum fluoride crystal membrane produces a current due to the exchange of fluoride ions between the membrane and the sample. The internal sensing elements are housed in a body made from a durable PEI and epoxy resin blend.
The HI4110 is ideal for applications in drinking water treatment, environmental monitoring, and plating baths.

The HI4110 fluoride selective electrode is a current cell containing a silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) reference contained within a PEI/epoxy body with potassium nitrate/potassium chloride electrolyte. The internal elements are isolated from the sample by a lanthanum fluoride crystal membrane.
Hanna solid state combination electrodes are designed with a conical junction that allows the liquid to contact the sample solution at the tip of the junction, providing a very stable reference current and consistent flow rate of electrolyte into the solution.
To accurately measure total fluoride with the HI4110, it is important that the pH and ionic strength of the standard and sample are adjusted to a constant value. The total ionic strength adjustment buffer (TISAB) ensures that the solution pH is between pH 5 and 8 and that the activity coefficient is constant. TISAB solutions also preferentially complex various metal ions, such as aluminum and iron, which tend to form compounds with fluoride ions. TISAB ensures that metal ions do not interfere, allowing for accurate fluoride measurements. Measuring solutions with a constant pH and ionic strength reduces variation between measurements. The HI4110 Fluorine ISE can measure from 1μM (0.02 mg/L) to F– saturated

Outstanding features
Fixed sensor module – Solid state half-cell ISE is an electrode that detects free ions in a solution. The lanthanum fluoride crystal sensor membrane is replaceable and easily attached to the sensor body.
Durable PEI body – Probe body made of durable PEI and epoxy plastic.
BNC connection – The HI4110 has a universal BNC connector that easily connects to any ISE meter with a female BNC input.
Working principle
A solid-state sensor electrode develops a voltage due to the ion exchange that occurs between the solution and the inorganic membrane. An equilibrium occurs due to the limited solubility of the membrane material in the sample. When the ionic strength of the solution is fixed by the addition of an ionic strength regulator, the voltage will be proportional to the concentration of free ions in the solution.
