The HI4014 is a liquid membrane half-cell ion selective electrode (ISE) for the determination of potassium (K+) in solution. The PVC membrane includes an organic ion exchanger that produces a potential change due to the exchange of potassium ions between the organic polymer membrane and the sample. The internal sensing elements are housed in a durable epoxy body.

HI4014 is ideal for wine, agriculture and water analysis.

The HI4014 potassium ion selective electrode is a half-cell sensor housed in an epoxy body. The internal elements are isolated from the sample by an organic polymer membrane. This liquid membrane sensor requires a separate reference electrode to complete the measurement system.

Hanna solid state half-cell electrodes are designed for use with the HI5315 conical junction reference electrode. The conical reference forms a liquid junction with the sample solution at the tip of the conical junction, providing a very stable reference current and a consistent flow rate of electrolyte into the solution.

For the HI4014 to measure potassium accurately, it is important that the ionic strength of the standards and samples is adjusted to a high and constant value with potassium ionic strength adjuster (ISA) solution. ISA ensures that the activity coefficient is constant so that the concentration of free nitrate ions can be measured. Measuring all solutions with a constant ionic strength reduces the margin of error between measurements. The HI4014 potassium ISE liquid membrane sensor can measure from 1µM (0.039 mg/L) to 1M (39100 mg/L).

SALIENT FEATURES

Interchangeable sensor module – The liquid membrane half-cell ISE is an electrode that detects free ions in a solution. This type of ISE is designed to easily incorporate replaceable sensor modules.

Durable epoxy body – Half-cell fluoride probe body made of durable epoxy resin.

BNC connection – The HI4014 has a universal BNC connector for easy connection to any meter with a BNC input.

Working principle: Liquid membrane ion selective electrodes generate voltage due to ion exchange occurring between the solution and a polymer membrane containing organic ion exchange resin. When the ionic strength of the solution is fixed by adding ISA, the voltage is proportional to the concentration of free ions in the solution.
