ELECTRODE BODY MADE OF GLASS

Ideal for laboratory use. Glass is resistant to many harsh chemicals and can be easily cleaned. The glass body also allows rapid heat transfer to the internal reference electrolysis. The mV generated by the reference cells is temperature dependent. The equilibrium state stabilizes faster than the reference potential.

RE-FILLING THE ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION

HI1131 is double junction pH electrode so the filling solution is HI7082 3.5M KCl. This solution does not contain silver as with single junction electrodes. The absence of silver will prevent silver precipitate from forming at the contact surface and clogging. A blockage at the connection will cause the results to drift and be unstable.

Spherical Electrode Head

Most pH sensors are spherical for general purpose use giving a large contact area to the sample. In addition, Hanna Instruments also has other shaped electrodes such as cones for penetration and flat tips for surface measurements.

DOUBLE JOINT

The HI1131 has a double junction design. pH electrodes are available as single junction or double junction. See below for a full description of the differences. Junctions are also known as a bridge for salt which is a necessary component of an electrical circuit. The movement of ions must flow through the junction for a stable value. The external reference has a single ceramic frit. Ceramic is a porous material that can easily fuse with a glass body and has a similar expansion coefficient. A single ceramic junction has a flow rate of 15-20 µl/hour. Other types of joints are available that have higher flow rates and are made of different materials.
