The HI1413B is a glass body flat tip electrode. This single junction reference pH electrode is constructed of low temperature glass and has a BNC connector. This electrode features a unique open junction design where a viscolene (solid gel) electrolyte layer containing no silver chloride (AgCl) is placed between the sample being measured and the internal reference cell. The open junction design resists clogging and the flat tip of the probe makes it ideal for measuring pH on surfaces such as skin, leather, and paper.

The HI1413B uses low temperature (LT) glass, flat tip bulb, glass body, and open junction with viscolene gel electrolyte.

The flat tip should be used to optimize surface contact area when measuring on skin, leather, paper and samples that cannot be easily penetrated.

Glass body

The glass body is ideal for laboratory use. Glass is resistant to many harsh chemicals and is easy to clean. The glass body also allows for rapid heat transfer to the internal reference electrolyte. The faster the electrode reaches equilibrium, the more stable the reference potential.

Open joint

Suspended solids and proteins found in food products will clog the conventional ceramic reference junction. This clog will interfere with the measurement circuit between the indicating electrode and the internal reference, resulting in slower response times, erratic readings, and frequent electrode replacement. The open junction design includes a solid gel (viscolene) interface between the sample and the internal Ag/AgCl reference. This design not only prevents silver from entering the sample, but also prevents the sample from clogging, resulting in a fast response and stable readings.

BNC connection port

The HI1413B uses a BNC connector. This connector type is popular because it can be used on any pH meter that has a BNC connector.
