The HI1049B uses general purpose (GP) glass, spherical bulb, glass body, CPS™ technology, double junction, and refillable 3.5M KCl electrolyte making it ideal for samples with high solids content.

This design allows for maximum contact area with the sample. This allows the electrode to respond faster with a higher level of stability.
CLOGGING PREVENTION TECHNOLOGY (CPS™)
This is an improvement in improving pH measurement in high solids samples. Conventional pH electrodes use ceramic junctions that can clog quickly when used in high solids samples such as wine or juice. When the junction is clogged, the electrode does not function. CPS technology utilizes the porosity of the ground glass combined with a PTFE sleeve to prevent junction clogging. The ground glass allows liquid to flow properly, while the PTFE sleeve repels solids. As a result, pH electrodes with CPS technology are up to 20 times more resistant to fouling than conventional electrodes.
DOUBLE REFERENCE JOINT
The double junction electrode has an inner chamber that surrounds the reference wire. Silver ions are contained in the electrolyte of the inner chamber, which contains the Ag/AgCl reference wire; the electrolyte outside this chamber is silver-free. The double junction design means that virtually no silver from the electrode enters the sample. This design allows measurements in applications where silver ions are not desired in the sample or for samples containing sulfides that can cause silver to precipitate and clog the junction. Clogging of the junction will result in erratic and distorted readings.
Ideal for laboratory use. Glass is resistant to many harsh chemicals and is easy to clean.
The glass body also allows for rapid heat transfer to the internal reference electrolyte. The mV generated by the reference cell depends on the temperature. The faster the equilibrium is reached, the more stable the reference potential will be.
BNC CONNECTOR
The HI1049B has a BNC connector. This connector type is popular because it can be used on any pH meter that has a BNC input.
Other types of connectors include DIN, screw type, T type, and 3.5mm, among others. These connectors tend to be compatible only for a specific type of meter and are not interchangeable.
