Force and mechanical measuring equipment
The HI93703-57 is a standard glycerol calibration solution used in the calibration of the HI96785 Honey Colorimeter and the HI96759 Maple Honey Colorimeter. Glycerol is used to calibrate the colorimeter to the 100% transparency. A sample of honey or maple syrup is measured to determine the amount of light, at a specific wavelength, that it can transmit against a glycerol standard. The % transparency is then used to evaluate the appropriate product. For honey, the results are read in mm pfund while for maple syrup, the % transparency. The HI93703-57 comes with four bottles containing 20 mL of glycerol.
Glycerol is a simple, transparent, colorless, viscous organic alcohol compound used to calibrate a colorimeter to 100% transparency is the maximum amount of light that passes through a cuvette containing the sample and is detected by a silicon light detector. For honey and maple, calibration is performed at a specific wavelength of light. The wavelength used is based on the appropriate method and represents the complementary color of the sample being measured.
