Force and mechanical measuring equipment
HI4016-00 is a high quality ISA solution for use with sodium electrodes. This solution is used to adjust the ionic strength of sodium samples and standards to maintain a constant ionic strength and eliminate interferences when measuring sodium.
Adjust the ionic strength for sample and standard solutions
Important when measuring sodium at low concentrations
HI4016-00 is an ionic strength adjuster (ISA) solution for use with sodium ion selective electrodes (ISEs). Hanna ISA solutions fix the ionic strength of samples and standards so that both remain constant.
Without the addition of this ISA solution, an ion-selective electrode will measure ion activity; therefore, the ISA stabilizes the ionic strength and allows measurement as an ion concentration. With some ISE electrodes, the ISA solution is also used to adjust the pH of the solution or to remove interfering complexes of ions in a sample to allow measurement of free ions.
The Importance of ISA*
– Fix the ion activity in the solution to be able to determine the exact concentration.
– Adjusting the pH of the solution is necessary for some ISEs
– Complexes interfere with ions in a sample to allow measurement of free ions
*MUST ADD ISA solution into sample and solution standard in proportion equal.
