ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) electrodes are used to measure chemical reactions in which one species is being oxidized and another species is being reduced. The loss of electrons by an element or compound is called an oxidation reaction while the gain of electrons by an element or compound is called a reduction reaction. For example, electroplating companies have hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) in their wastewater must reduce it to the trivalent chromium form (Cr3+) safer. This reduction reaction occurs in the presence of a strong reducing agent such as sodium metabisulfite. The addition of the reducing agent must be measured with an ORP electrode to ensure that adequate reduction potential is present. Using the HI7091L reduction pretreatment solution prior to taking the measurement provides a faster response time in a reducing environment.

HI7091L |
|
Purpose |
Used to treat ORP electrodes when the electrode needs to be calibrated when the corresponding mV value of pH is lower than the table above. |
Specifications |
1 bottle HI7091-1 500mL and 1 bottle HI7091-2 powder |
Using |
1. Pour the entire contents of the HI7091-2 powder bottle (small bottle) into the HI7091-1 solution bottle (large bottle). 2. Shake well 10 times to mix. 3. Use the mixed solution within 1 month. 4. Soak the ORP electrode in the treatment solution for 15 minutes before use. |
Methods of preservation |
– After use, cover and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight – Do not dilute or add any chemicals to the solution. – Always use fresh solution for each calibration – ABSOLUTELY do not pour used solution back into the bottle. |
