TURBIDITY OF CLEAN WATER
Turbidity is one of the most important parameters used to determine the quality of drinking water. Turbidity is considered a characteristic for identifying pathogens in drinking water. In natural waters, turbidity measurements are performed to assess the general quality of water and its suitability for applications involving aquatic organisms. Wastewater monitoring and treatment were once based solely on turbidity control. Nowadays, turbidity measurements at the end of wastewater treatment are necessary to verify that values are within regulatory standards.
Turbidity of water is an optical property that causes light to be scattered and absorbed rather than transmitted. The scattering of light passing through a liquid is primarily caused by the suspended solids present. The higher the turbidity, the greater the amount of scattered light. Even a pure liquid will scatter light to some extent, meaning that no solution has a turbidity value of zero.
Drinking water treatment plants that draw from surface water are required by EPA to monitor and report turbidity. Surface water sources include lakes and rivers. The nephelometer requirements and measurement reporting requirements under EPA Method 180.1 are:
– Applicable scale is 0 to 40 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU)
– Light source: tungsten lamp operating at color temperature between 2200 – 3000°K.
– The distance of the incident light and scattered light passing through the sample tube: Total does not exceed 10 cm.
– Detector: centered at 90° to the incident light path and not to exceed ± 30° from 90°. The detector and filter system, if used, shall have a spectral peak response between 400 nm and 600 nm.
– The sensitivity of the instrument-* must allow detection of a turbidity difference of 0.02 NTU or less in waters with turbidity less than 1 unit.
THREE MEASUREMENT MODES IN 1 MACHINE
The HI93414 has three measurement options including ratio mode for turbidity, free chlorine, and total chlorine. Turbidity measurements can be made in a range of 0.00 to 1000 NTU (nephelometric turbidity units), while free or total chlorine measurements are made in a range of 0.00 to 5.00 mg/L (ppm).
EPA COMPLIANCE
The HI93414 meets and exceeds the requirements of EPA and Standard Methods for turbidity and chlorine colorimetry. When the meter is in EPA mode all turbidity readings are rounded to meet reporting requirements.
MULTIPLE READING MODES
Normal measurement, continuous measurement, or average signal measurement
CAL CHECKTM
With the powerful CAL Check™ function, reliable chlorine colorimetric performance can be verified at any time using validated, NIST HANNA standards. All standards are supplied with a Certificate of Analysis (COA).
TURBIDITY STANDARD SOLUTION AMCO AEPA-1
AMCO AEPA-1 provides standards that are recognized as a USEPA base standard. These standards are non-toxic, uniform in size and density, reusable, and stable with a long shelf life.
AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION
2, 3, or 4-point turbidity calibration can be performed using the supplied standards (<0.10, 15.0, 100, and 750 NTU). Calibration points can be modified if user-prepared standards are being used. For free and total chlorine, the 1.00 mg/L (ppm) CAL Check™ standard can be used for calibration and performance verification.
USB PORT
For further storage or analysis, logged data can be downloaded to a Windows compatible computer installed with the HI92000 application via USB port.
GLP DATA
The HI93414 offers complete GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) features allowing traceability of calibration conditions. Data includes calibration points, date and time.
AUTOMATIC DATA RECORDING
Up to 200 measurements can be stored in memory and reviewed at any time.
FAST TRACKER LOCATION TECHNOLOGYTM
For advanced field applications, HI93414 Equipped with Fast Tracker.
The Tag Identification System (TIS) makes data collection and management simpler than ever.
Fast Tracker allows users to record the time and location of a specific measurement or series of measurements by placing iButton® tags near sampling points for quick and easy reading. Each iButton® tag contains a computer chip with a unique identification code encased in stainless steel.
PROVIDE FULL NECESSARY ACCESSORIES (EXCEPT REAGENTS) – SHOCKPROOF SUITCASE
The HI93414 is supplied with all the necessary equipment for measurement in a convenient, sturdy case:
– Measuring machine and 5 sample cuvettes
– Machine calibration solution set.
– Fast Tracker card set
– Power adapter, battery, silicone oil
– Shock-absorbing suitcase for transport
