Speed range (N) 1~50rpm
International standard for measuring solder paste viscosity
When it comes to solder paste, one parameter that is often discussed is viscosity. Viscosity is important because solder paste that is too thick (high viscosity) can result in poor prints due to insufficient coverage. Solder paste that is too thin (low viscosity) can result in sagging coverage. To check that the solder paste is the right thickness for optimal printing, the viscosity of the solder paste must be tested using an accurate and repeatable viscometer.
It is important to note that there are essentially two components to measuring the viscosity of a solder paste. These are the static viscosity and the dynamic viscosity. The static viscosity is the viscosity of the solder paste as it is dispensed from a tube or syringe into the screen printer. On the other hand, the dynamic viscosity indicates the change in the rheological behavior of the solder paste during the screen printing process. It is important to know the dynamic viscosity of the solder paste in order to predict its printing characteristics.
Dynamic viscosity is achieved by adding shear to the solder paste. Shear is the force that the solder paste encounters on the screen printing press. Understanding how shear affects the viscosity of the solder paste is important because knowing it can help reduce printing problems.
