NITRITE IN CLEAN WATER

Nitrite can be harmful to aquatic life even at low concentrations and should be closely monitored in aquaculture facilities. However, in cooling towers, sufficient nitrite is needed to prevent corrosion. At high concentrations, nitrite can be harmful to the environment and humans. Therefore, regular monitoring is required to check the quality of water used, as well as in ponds.

Nitrite is an intermediate product in the nitrogen cycle and is produced by the oxidation of ammonia with water, or even derived directly from industrial waste. Nitrite is not allowed in drinking water.
