pH OF LEATHER AND PAPER SURFACES
Measuring the pH of paper, leather, and other surfaces is important during the manufacturing and final product stages. In the paper industry, pH measurements indicate the chemical stability and longevity of a paper. Paper must have a neutral or slightly basic pH to aid in the preservation of important documents, publications, and works of art. An acidic or alkaline paper can absorb harmful acid compounds that form naturally over time. The pH of paper and cardboard packaging is also important in the food industry. Food packaging often incorporates antimicrobials to inhibit microbial activity during transport and storage. The activity of antimicrobial agents can change rapidly with pH changes. The pH should be tested for compatibility with the food ingredients, the chemistry of the antimicrobial agent used, and the packaging materials. Tanning is one of the most complex chemical steps in the leather manufacturing process. Generally, tanning produces a more breathable, flexible leather product suitable for use in handbags, luggage, apparel, and many commercial items. Tanning is done by either a vegetable method or a chrome method; chrome tanning requires the addition of chromium salts and a base ingredient to raise the pH. The pH of the solution used in the leather making process and the pH of the final leather product directly affect characteristics such as hardness, heat resistance, and durability.
ELECTRODE CONDITION
A 1 to 5 bar indicator in the left corner of the screen informs the electrode status when the electrode needs cleaning or recalibration.
LOW BATTERY ALERT
Included battery for 1200 hours of continuous use. When the battery level is below 10%, the warning icon will flash to indicate low battery status.
AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION
The measured pH value will be automatically compensated for temperature for accurate measurement results
HANDHELD, COMPACT DESIGN
The body is engineered to fit comfortably in the hand for use in the field Protects against water drops and dirt when your hands are wet
AUTOMATIC pH CALIBRATION
Automatic calibration at 1 or 2 points is quick and convenient
LARGE, CLEAR SCREEN
Large display displays pH and temperature from any angle and dual button operation streamlines the measurement process.
ELECTRODES HAVE NEW STYLE DIN CONNECTORS
– Rubber layer protects cables and seals against water without twisting.
– New DIN type connector helps to reduce the problem of connector breakage when removing or connecting electrodes.
HI99171 COMES WITH HI14143 pH/TEMPERATURE ELECTRODE
THE ELECTRODE HAS AN OPEN CONNECTION DESIGN
Use solid gel electrolyte for contact from skin or scalp and internal Ag/AgCl reference. This interface not only prevents silver from escaping the joint, but also makes it clog-free, allowing for fast measurements and stable readings. This design allows for smaller sample sizes because there are no joints to submerge.
FLAT ELECTRODE HEAD
Provides optimal contact surface for pH measurements on the skin surface (with a drop of water on the skin surface)
BUILT-IN TEMPERATURE SENSOR
CONVENIENT, STURDY MACHINE CARRYING LIFLE
– Specialized electrode cleaning solution for skin
CLEANING THE ELECTROD AFTER EACH MEASUREMENT is very important, if there is dirt on the electrode, it will quickly damage the electrode. Wash by stirring to dissolve dirt into specialized electrode cleaning solution. Do not scrub or scratch the inside glass pH sensor bulb. Then use a paper towel to absorb excess water (do not clean). The cleaning solution will help dissolve dirt more quickly than regular water but still ensures it does not corrode the electrode.
– pH4.01 and pH7.01 machine calibration solution
Sacheted standard solutions ensure freshness for each calibration
