pH IN DRINKING WATER
The pH of drinking water is important. If the pH is too low, drinking water will corrode the distribution system and plumbing in homes. The pH of water also affects other properties including taste, odor, clarity, and disinfection effectiveness of water. In the United States, the pH of water is determined by a meter using EPA Method 150.1 and Standard Method 4500-H.
Measuring low pH in pure water is difficult. The lower the mineral content, the lower the conductivity of the water. Low conductivity water is difficult because a pH meter is an electrochemical system that relies on the solution being measured to conduct electricity.
Most drinking water plants use surface water (lakes, rivers, streams) or groundwater as the primary source of water for treatment. Surface water is typically lower in mineral content, resulting in lower conductivity/TDS values. Groundwater percolates through limestone, dolomite, or gypsum and is typically higher in mineral content than surface water. However, there are groundwater sources that have very low mineral content.
ELECTRODE CONDITION
A 1 to 5 bar indicator in the left corner of the screen informs the electrode status when the electrode needs cleaning or recalibration.
LOW BATTERY ALERT
Included battery for 1200 hours of continuous use. When the battery level is below 10%, the warning icon will flash to indicate low battery status.
AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION
The measured pH value will be automatically compensated for temperature for accurate measurement results
HANDHELD, COMPACT DESIGN
The body is engineered to fit comfortably in the hand for use in the field Protects against water drops and dirt when your hands are wet
AUTOMATIC pH CALIBRATION
Automatic calibration at 1 or 2 points is quick and convenient
LARGE, CLEAR SCREEN
Large display displays pH and temperature from any angle and dual button operation streamlines the measurement process.
ELECTRODES HAVE NEW STYLE DIN CONNECTORS
– Rubber layer protects cables and seals against water without twisting.
– Minimize the problem of broken connectors when removing or attaching
pH ELECTRODE FC2153 SPECIALIZED IN DRINKING WATER
The HI99192 uses the FC2153 glass body amplified pH electrode. This specialized electrode offers many features that improve pH measurements in drinking water. A built-in temperature sensor allows for temperature compensated pH measurements without the need for a separate temperature probe. The spherical sensing tip of the probe provides a large surface area for measurement in aqueous solutions.
An integral part of any pH electrode is the reference junction. The reference junction is the part of the electrode that allows the flow of ions from the reference cell into the sample being measured. The ions provide an electrical connection between the reference electrode and the indicating electrode. A standard pH electrode will use a single ceramic junction that allows an electrolyte flow of 15 to 20 μL/hour. The FC2153 has three ceramic junctions providing an electrolyte flow of 40 to 50 μL/hour. The increased flow provides greater continuity between the reference and indicator electrodes to accommodate low ion water. To optimize the flow from the electrode, the electrolyte refill cap must be removed. This creates pressure at the top allowing the electrolyte to flow more easily into the sample.
CONVENIENT, STURDY MACHINE CARRYING LIFLE
– Specialized electrode cleaning solution for after measurement
CLEANING THE ELECTROD AFTER EACH MEASUREMENT is very important, if there is dirt on the electrode, it will quickly damage the electrode. Wash by stirring to dissolve dirt into specialized electrode cleaning solution. Do not scrub or scratch the inside glass pH sensor bulb. Then use a paper towel to absorb excess water (do not clean). The cleaning solution will help dissolve dirt more quickly than regular water but still ensures it does not corrode the electrode.
– pH4.01 and pH7.01 machine calibration solution
Sacheted standard solutions ensure freshness for each calibration
