In addition to its special pH electrode for use with yogurt, the HI98164 features Hanna’s unique CAL CHECK™ feature that alerts the user to potential problems during the calibration process. This is especially important in food processing applications as the probe may become coated with solids in the food sample being measured. This coating can easily lead to erroneous pH readings. By comparing the previous calibration data to the current calibration, the meter will inform the user, with a display, when the probe needs to be cleaned, replaced, or if the pH buffer solution may be contaminated. After calibration, the probe status is shown on the display as a percentage from 0 to 100% in 10% increments. The probe status is affected by the offset and slope of the pH electrode, both of which can be found in the GLP data.
The HI98164 uses the FC2133 glass body amplified pH electrode. This specialized electrode offers many features to help test the pH of milk. A built-in temperature sensor also ensures that all pH measurements are temperature compensated without the need for a separate temperature probe. The large surface area of the bulb and the milk sample ensure a stable calibration and measurement.
