The HI8734 is a durable, portable conductivity meter designed for use in a wide variety of environmental applications. The HI8734 is supplied with a four-ring conductivity probe that allows for three measurement ranges. TDS readings are automatically compensated for temperature, ensuring the user selects a consistent and accurate total dissolved solids measurement.

Manual temperature compensation

The measurement of total dissolved solids (TDS) indicates the amount of ions dissolved in a solution. The HI8734 portable TDS meter is suitable for use in the water conditioning industry, especially in softening, demineralization, reverse osmosis, and drinking water applications. It offers three measurement ranges from 0.0 mg/L to 19.99 g/L with an accuracy of ±1%. The HI76301D four-ring probe included with the meter allows for a wide range of measurements with a single sensor.

SALIENT FEATURES

Four-ring probe – The four-ring probe included with the HI8734 provides flexible and accurate TDS measurements. Four-ring technology allows for multiple ranges of measurement with a single sensor. The probe is protected by a PVC sleeve for durability when taking outdoor measurements.
Three scales – The HI 8734 offers 3 TDS measurement ranges. Each range has a dedicated button on the face of the meter, allowing the user to easily switch between ranges when necessary. The meter is programmed to alert the user when the current value is outside the measured range, then a new measurement range should be selected.
TDS Factor – The TDS value in a solution is directly proportional to the conductivity. The ratio between these two parameters depends on the solution being measured. The HI8734 is set to a TDS factor of 0.5 which is common in many solutions, meaning that 1 µs/cm is equivalent to 0.5 mg/L (ppm) TDS.
Manual temperature compensation – Since temperature affects conductivity, temperature compensation is provided. Once the temperature of the sample (more accurately measured with a thermometer) is known, it can be entered into the meter using the temperature knob. The meter then calculates the effect of temperature on the TDS value of the sample in the range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). The temperature compensation coefficient, also known as β, is set at 2%/°C; this factor adjusts the value 2% for each degree Celsius change in the sample.
One point calibration – The HI8734 can be calibrated at one point with a TDS standard solution. Calibration knobs located on the top of the meter can easily adjust precise calibration standards.
