COD AND INDICATORS IN CLEAN WATER AND WASTEWATER
Generally, when someone says clean water, we tend to think of drinking water. However, we also need clean water as a byproduct of the wastewater system. When water is finished being used in a factory or flushed down the toilet, how does the water become clean again, and how do we know the water is truly clean? So a measurement called Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) can be made to infer the level of contamination in a water sample at any wastewater treatment plant.
Monitoring and controlling COD in wastewater is also important in controlling nitrogen and phosphorus levels in water. COD, nitrogen and phosphorus levels are subject to environmental regulations, but they are also a great way to minimize plant costs

LARGER CUVET DESIGN
The HI83399 sample cell fits a 25 mm diameter glass cuvette. Coupled with advanced optical components, the larger cuvette size significantly reduces cuvette indexing errors. The relatively long cuvette length allows more light to pass through the sample solution, ensuring accurate measurements even in low absorbance samples.

CAL Check featureTM Hanna's proprietary technology allows independent measurement channel performance verification.
CAL Check standard set HI83399-11 by HANNA was developed to simulate a specific absorbance value at each wavelength 420 nm, 466 nm, 525 nm, 575 nm and 610 nmto verify the accuracy of the machine. This is useful for users with their own chemistry methods and for educators to teach absorbance concepts using the Beer-Lambert Law.
WASTEWATER PARAMETERS NEED TO BE DEMOGRATED BEFORE MEASURING
HI83399 provides a 16mm cuvette holder that holds digestion tubes.
A COD digester is used to heat the digestion tubes. Digestion tubes must be heated to a specific temperature and the HI839800 is an important accessory needed for a complete wastewater treatment monitoring system.
HI83The 399 is designed with an advanced optical system incorporating a beam splitter so that the light can be used for absorption values and for a reference detector. The reference detector monitors the light intensity and adjusts for disturbances due to electrical or thermal fluctuations of the optical components. Each part has an important role to play in providing excellent performance from a photometer.
Features as a Desktop pH Meter

– When connecting the 3.5mm digital pH electrode to the meter and switching to pH mode, the HI83399 will have all the features of a professional benchtop pH meter.
– pH scale from -2.00 to 16.00 and sample temperature measured simultaneously.
Selecting the pH measurement mode allows the photometer to be used as a professional pH meter with many features including temperature compensated measurements, automatic point calibration and GLP.
