COD AND INDICATORS IN CLEAN WATER AND WASTEWATER
Generally, when someone says clean water, we tend to think of drinking water. However, we also need clean water as a byproduct of the wastewater system. When water is finished being used in a factory or flushed down the toilet, how does the water become clean again, and how do we know the water is truly clean? So a measurement called Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) can be made to infer the level of contamination in a water sample at any wastewater treatment plant.
Monitoring and controlling COD in wastewater is also important in controlling nitrogen and phosphorus levels in water. COD, nitrogen and phosphorus levels are subject to environmental regulations, but they are also a great way to minimize plant costs
MODERN FEATURES OF METER
BARCODE IDENTIFICATION (BARCODE)
Automatic recognition of barcode patterns is an interesting feature of the HI83224. This advanced meter scans each vial inserted into the vial holder and automatically determines the method and sample range. Barcodes have four digits: the first two digits are used to identify the parameter and the second two digits are the reagent batch ID. Vials for different methods can be distinguished by the barcode printed on the vial and the cap color – the barcodes for the different methods are shown in the table below. For parameters where barcoded reagents are not used, the vials supplied with the instrument may be used.
METHOD VALIDATION
A dedicated METHOD CHECK button is available to quickly verify vial barcodes, eliminating the possibility of vial mix-ups or inaccurate sample readings.
ROTATE THE REAGE TUBE
During the measurement phase of the analysis, a modern vial spinner rotates the reagent tube to identify the method via a barcode, then rotates while taking several absorbance measurements. The device then converts the readings to concentration units and displays the results on an easy-to-read display.
MACHINE MEASURES IMPORTANT INDICATORS IN WASTEWATER AND CLEAN WATER
The HI83324 benchtop photometer measures 6 different critical wastewater quality parameters using 15 methods allowing for multiple ranges and chemical variations for specific applications. Including Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) for industrial and municipal wastewater treatment. There are also total Phosphorus and Nitrogen.
CONVENIENT WHEN MEASUREMENT IN THE FIELD
The machine uses a power adapter directly with an internal 3.7 VDC Lithium-polymer rechargeable battery when out in the field.
DATA RECORDING AND DATA TRANSFER WITH USB PORT
2 USB ports are provided for transferring data to a flash drive or computer and can be used as a power source.
Up to 1000 measurements can be recorded with user and sample ID.
Data is exported as a .CSV file for use with popular spreadsheet programs.
BACKLIGHT SCREEN
128 x 64 Pixel LCD graphic display with backlight support in low light conditions.
WASTEWATER PARAMETERS NEED TO BE DEMOGRATED BEFORE MEASURING
Cuvette compartment
The HI83224 provides a 16mm cuvette compartment to accommodate digestion tubes.
HI839800 COD Digester (purchased separately)
A COD digester is used to heat the digestion tubes. Digestion tubes must be heated to a specific temperature and the HI839800 is an important accessory needed for a complete wastewater treatment monitoring system.
HI83The 224 is designed with an advanced optical system that incorporates a beam splitter so that light can be used for absorption values and for a reference detector. The reference detector monitors light intensity and corrects for interference due to electrical or thermal fluctuations of the optical components. Each part has an important role in providing excellent performance from a photometer.
MEASUREABLE OPTICAL INDICATORS
Criteria 16mm tubes must be digested with the HI839800-02 digester before measuring.
