Force and mechanical measuring equipment
– Honey color tester
– Magnetic scale 0 to 150 mm Pfund
– Convenient battery-powered handheld meter.
– More accurate than work guess color by "naked eye".
– Simple, easy to use.
– The meter comes complete with standard solution and sample cuvette.
AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION
The meter features automatic calibration with included glycerol standard solution for high accuracy.
CUVET POSITIONING
The machine has an arrow mark in the measuring compartment and a cuvette lock to ensure the cuvette is always fixed in one position for high repeatability, reducing errors between measurements.
COOLING LAMP
To maintain the desired wavelength used for absorption, it is necessary to ensure that the components do not overheat from the heat generated by the tungsten lamp. Each photometer is designed to allow a minimum amount of time for the components to cool. A cooling indicator is displayed before readings are taken.
ERROR MESSAGE
On-screen messages warn of problems such as no cap, high zero, or too low standard to avoid false readings when the machine fails.
SUPPLIED COMPLETE SET
The HI96785 meter comes complete with all necessary accessories:
– Glycerol solution for calibration
- The battery
– 5 square sample cuvettes
The main characteristic for grading commercial honey is colour. The colour grade is expressed in millimetres (mm) Pfund relative to an analytical glycerol standard grade.
The natural colour of honey comes in many shades: from straw yellow to amber, from dark amber to almost black with a hint of red. The colours of raw honey are derived from the botanical varieties harvested by the bees; for this reason, the colour of honey is sometimes used to commercially identify floral origins.
The color of honey tends to darken over time or change depending on storage or production methods used by beekeepers, which may include the use of old hives, exposure to metals, storage temperatures, and exposure to light.
The HI 96785 measures directly for the determination of honey colors ranging from 0 to 150 mm Pfund. This photometer has a tungsten lamp with a narrow band filter to isolate the 420nm and 525nm wavelengths. All samples are measured in a square cuvette with a 10mm light path and compared to a glycerol standard. The measurement results are displayed directly in mm Pfund. With an advanced optical system, the meter is highly accurate to provide accurate and repeatable results.
The table below reports the USDA classification for honey samples and the associated mm Pfund value.
