C Series Brushless Servo Motor Drive Module—NI‑9502 is a single-axis module that can drive three-phase brushless servo motors. Motor control, traditionally fixed in the drive firmware, is implemented using FPGAs and is fully customizable in the LabVIEW FPGA Module with LabVIEW SoftMotion Module motor control VIs. The NI‑9502 provides an alternative to costly and time-consuming custom drive development or paying a drive vendor for custom firmware. Furthermore, the NI‑9502 eliminates large stand-alone motor drives and cumbersome cabling to enable tightly embedded motion systems.

NI-9502 C Series Motor Drive Module
The NI-9502 (Part number: 781282-01) is a C Series Motor Drive Module manufactured by National Instruments. The NI‑9502 is a solo alliance, brushless servo motor drive. This module includes motor outputs for power connections and Hall effect sensor inputs. It also has motor outputs for brushless. It has a motor output current of 4 A continuous/8 A peak. The NI 9502 C Series Module sends back the motor current to the LabVIEW FPGA module. This is currently used for looping or monitoring. With minor changes in the settings, the NI-9502 can operate in different modes. These modes include Trapezoidal or Field Oriented Control (FOC) communication mode.
The NI-9502 is structured with 10 terminal removable screw-terminal connectors, which provide connections for the brushless servo motor signals. It also provides connections for Hall effects sensors. The NI-9502 module has a maximum power supply range from 9 V up to 30 V. This module comes with a built-in COM and chassis ground. The NI 9502 is suitable for applications with high vibrations. The device has a sampling rate of 10 kHz, an ADC resolution of 12 bits, and a peak output power of 0.2 kW. It has a consumption up to 700 mW when in active mode.
The NI-9502 features four LEDs. These LEDs show the status information. The green LED lights up when driving is enabled and in the active output power stage. It flashes when the drive is disabled. The Vsup LED lights up when the DC power supply of the motor is correctly connected. The user LED is customizable. It can be adjusted according to the needs of the application. The drive is disabled when a fault occurs and the Fault LED lights up. The NI-9502 is entered in the chassis while it is in disabled form. Drive can be enabled through the Drive method in software.
The NI device weighs 5.1 oz. It has a recommended operating temperature range of -40 to 70 °C, a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 °C, and a random and sinusoidal operating vibration of 5 grms and 5 g respectively–all with a frequency range of 10 to 500 Hz.
