Application of Fujifilm prescale film for pressure measurement in production evaluation

Fujifilm Prescale can measure pressure and visualize the pressure range applied.

When pressure is applied, the microcapsules rupture and the color-forming material reacts with the color-developing material. Red patches appear on the film.

Working principle

Structure
Single plate type: Color developing material is coated on a polyester base, with microencapsulated color material coated on top.
Two-plate type: One membrane is coated with microcapsule color material and the other membrane is coated with color developing material. Use two membranes facing each other with the coated sides facing each other.

Pressure distribution and pressure measurement are significant issues when tightening engine cylinder gaskets. However, by inserting “Prescale” between the cylinder block, gasket and cylinder head, the measurement can be done simply by tightening. The great thing about “Prescale” is that its application to the performance test of “Cylinder head gasket for automobile engine” according to JIS D3150 standard has also been demonstrated.

Flange sealing surface pressure analysis

The flange surface must be tightened firmly and with an appropriate amount of pressure to prevent oil leakage. When measuring with sensors, etc., it is difficult to measure the pressure distribution over the entire area. However, by inserting “Prescale” between the flanges, simply tighten. The pressure distribution can then be accurately read by attaching the “Prescale” into the reader.

Tire/ground contact pressure analysis

Tires are an important part of the car that is necessary for safe and accurate “steering”, “turning” and “stopping”. By analyzing the ground contact surface where the tire contacts, the ground pressure can be distributed and analyzed easily and accurately without the need to route sensor cables, etc. This method only requires inserting “Prescale” between the ground contact surface (asphalt, etc.) and the tire. Then, attach “Prescale” to the reading device, if using the FPD-901 Series, the ground contact distribution can be obtained by visual observation and with numerical values.

Measure roller contact pressure

In the past, the tension of rolled steel plates was determined based on a combination of past experience and intuition. However, errors such as part of the roll swelling often occurred, so there was no other way but to perform the cutting method and repeated testing until the appropriate tension was achieved. However, rolling steel plates together with “Prescale” allows precise rolling pressure measurement, allowing standardized tension adjustment and contributing to cost reduction.
